Essence: Void · Memory · Satire
Empty Meal turns the familiar comfort of consumer culture into a scene of existential comedy.
Painted on reclaimed wood, the raw surface carries the scars of time — just as the figure, aged and unapologetically human, wears the erosion of illusion. Her expression — tongue out, spoon poised — becomes both mockery and confession: a desperate bite of emptiness served as joy.
The red box, instantly recognizable yet hollow, bleeds its corporate color into the scene, transforming into a relic of false promise. This is not a meal — it’s a ritual of forgetting.
Here, satire becomes empathy; decay becomes honesty.
The viewer is left between laughter and discomfort — uncertain whether to laugh, cry, or recognize themselves in the act.
